Biography

I am developing novel statistical and computational methods for the Earth Sciences. In my current PostDoc at Durham University, I build a Bayesian stratigraphic model that can correlate and date geological sections using geochemical signatures. Other projects include modelling the latitudinal temperature gradient from sparsely sampled climate data, and an R package enabling reproducible, efficient workflows for palaeobiological research.

To work well, the Metropolis algorithm needs proposals that are accepted reasonably often. Here, I improve the model from the previous post by using draws from the posterior to iteratively improve proposals, resulting in more efficient sampling.
